Bull-Eagle

The First International Tianguis of Magical Towns

Taller Jacobo y María Ángeles is going to participate in The First International Tianguis (Outdoors Market) of Magical Towns with the exhibition of a monumental piece: The bull-eagle fusion.

Both animals, the bull and the eagle benefit from very deep symbolism which interest us to understand and rescue. On the one hand, the bull has had great relevance in agriculture and Mexican gastronomy, mestiza gastronomy. Likewise, it is a claimant of a cultural polysemy that runs all over the world: from India, Egypt, Babylon, China, Greece, etc. Also, the bull is not an endemic animal from the continent, therefore since the beginning brings with it an interchange cultural connotation.

On the one hand, the eagle is an icon who is constantly repeated in the representation of power, not only in Mesoamerica but also inside the occidental currents of thinking. Shows an ironic contrast between the imperialist notion, and the war notion too. The latter are of Mexican origin, Aztec, Zapotec, and Mexica.

To fuse these animals, also we conjugate both symbolic strengths, both ambivalent, and diverse by themselves. We built our narrative and story: a piece that refers to the interchange and the multiculturality, the variety of viewpoints that built our identities, and how these differences rich us.

Decorated by a team of 12 people painting at the same time, this piece has the new graphic style from the workshop, first implemented in The Monumental Guardians. This reinterpretation of the Zapotec symbolism and their composition in the sculptor body is proposed by Ricardo Ángeles.

This is the second monumental piece that resides in Europe. We are pleased to continue giving knowledge about our work in other parts of the world.
