The intervention of objects through art is the practice of transforming the everyday to create new forms of interpretation and meaning, this action has become valuable to reflect the reality and culture of a society.<\/p>\n

Jacobo and Mar\u00eda \u00c1ngeles workshop has decided to get involved in the tuning of reality, in the intervention of various objects and in contributing to the reconstruction and appropriation of reality. This is how #TuningTJYMA becomes a line of work in which cars and other objects have been intervened in order to translate our worldview in other ways.<\/p>\n

This time we do it for the helmet of the Mexican racing driver Patricio O'Ward, who participates in the 500 Miles of Indianapolis, also known as Indianapolis 500 or Indy 500, one of the oldest motor events of its kind.<\/p>\n

Al adentrarnos a esta exposici\u00f3n, nos recibe una escena que evoca tanto el enigma de tiempos antiguos como la astucia de actos il\u00edcitos. Cinco siluetas de changos se erigen, portando en sus manos tesoros prehisp\u00e1nicos pertenecientes a la rica y ancestral cultura del M\u00e9xico antiguo. Estos personajes, est\u00e1n por emprender un viaje clandestino, transportando objetos de un mundo antiguo a uno moderno. A trav\u00e9s de estas piezas, se devela una narrativa compleja: la de un patrimonio que ha sido desplazado, saqueado, y dirigido hacia colecciones y museos alrededor del mundo. Este encuentro es el comienzo de una reflexi\u00f3n sobre c\u00f3mo la historia y la cultura pueden ser simult\u00e1neamente protegidas y traicionadas, revelando la dualidad de la difusi\u00f3n y la profanaci\u00f3n de los tesoros ancestrales.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

El Taller Jacobo & Mar\u00eda \u00c1ngeles ha decidido interpretar el esplendor del trabajo prehisp\u00e1nico y evidenciar al acto y a los agentes del saqueo. Estos agentes, aunque involucrados en actividades ilegales, han sido inadvertidamente responsables de la \u201cdifusi\u00f3n\u201d de nuestra cultura a trav\u00e9s del mercado negro y las exhibiciones en museos extranjeros. La intenci\u00f3n es subrayar la acci\u00f3n humana de profanar tumbas, arrancando objetos valiosos con los que las antiguas civilizaciones fueron enterradas, para satisfacer la demanda de colecciones privadas y exhibiciones en museos, especialmente durante los procesos de colonizaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n

As we enter this exhibition, we are greeted by a scene that evokes both the enigma of ancient times and the cunning of illicit acts. Five silhouettes of monkeys stand, carrying in their hands pre-Hispanic treasures belonging to the rich and ancestral culture of ancient Mexico. These characters are about to embark on a clandestine journey, transporting objects from an ancient world to a modern one. Through these pieces, a complex narrative is unveiled: that of a heritage that has been displaced, looted, and directed to collections and museums around the world. This encounter is the beginning of a reflection on how history and culture can be simultaneously protected and betrayed, revealing the duality of the dissemination and desecration of ancestral treasures. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Jacobo Mar\u00eda \u00c1ngeles Workshop has decided to interpret the splendor of pre-Hispanic work and to expose the act and the agents of looting. These agents, although involved in illegal activities, have been inadvertently responsible for the \u201cdiffusion\u201d of our culture through the black market and exhibitions in foreign museums. The intention is to highlight the human action of desecrating tombs, uprooting valuable objects with which ancient civilizations were buried, to satisfy the demand for private collections and museum exhibits, especially during the processes of colonization. <\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, the idea that the value of the extracted pieces lies not only in their materiality, but also in the context where they were found, their geographic location and their relationship with other objects. When extracted, these pieces lose the context that gives them meaning. Without this connection, they become mere market objects, stripped of their identity and reducing their educational and symbolic power. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThieves of Ruins\u201d invites a deep reflection on the processes of extraction, research and preservation of cultural artifacts, and how these processes are perceived and carried out in different latitudes. The collection not only celebrates beauty and artistic skill, but also opens a dialogue on the ethics and implications of cultural conservation, questioning the dynamics of power and ownership that underlie these practices. <\/span><\/p>\n
